You could also try holding the knob further in mesh by pushing up on it while the mill is running and see if the noise goes away. These were pitiful things, around an inch in diameter with 1/4 inch shanks. Naturally my mill couldn''t begin to spin these stones up to speed since the max RPM is around 3200.

The table being ground in this view is from a Bridgeport vertical mill. Any mill or drill marks in the table top are welded with nickel rod and the top of the table is lightly milled and ground flat. The sides are ground next. In the final setup pictured here we grind the bottom flats and dovetails.
