Bauxite is generally extracted by open cast mining, being almost always found near the surface, with processes that vary slightly depending on the location. Before mining can commence the land needs to be cleared of timber and vegetation.

Minerals like manganese, lead, copper, alumina are expected to witness doubledigit growth in the years ahead. There is a significant scope for new mining capacities in iron ore, bauxite, and coal. India has an advantage in the cost of production and in conversion costs of steel and alumina.

Bauxite 101 Bauxite ore is the world''s main source of aluminum. Bauxite is a rock formed from a reddish clay material called laterite soil and is most commonly found in tropical or subtropical regions. Bauxite is primarily comprised of aluminum oxide compounds .

Bauxite deposits are mostly associated with laterite, and occur as blankets or as capping on the high plateaus in peninsular India. India has the fifth largest bauxite reserves with deposits of about 3 Bt or 5% of world deposits. India''s share in world aluminium capacity rests at about 3%.

Bauxite deposits are commonly referred to by a number of different terminologies relating to either their mineralogy or geological formation. Alternately they may be described by likening them to other well known deposits elsewhere around the globe.

AnRak Aluminium, a company of the government of Ras alKhaimah of the United Arab Emirates and Penna Cement of AP has secured approval for both an aluminium complex and a bauxite mines in the Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, but the final forest clearance for the mines is awaited.

Bauxite is found in most countries, but the larger deposits occur in the tropics. Major deposits of gravels mixed with sand were discovered in Australia in the 1950s, and it became the world''s top producer of bauxite by the early 21st century. Other top producers include China, Indonesia, Brazil, and India.

Indian Mining Industry has been a major mineral producer in Asia and globally. Currently it is the global producer of chromite, coal, iron ore and bauxite while enjoying economic growth during the nineties.

As of 2012, India is the largest producer of sheet mica, 2015 the fourth largest producer of iron ore, alumina, chromite, and bauxite in the world. A coal and iron ore project is in the fifth largest reserve in world. India''s metal and mining industry was estimated to be billion in 2010.

Australia is the largest producer of bauxite, followed by China. In 2017, China was the top producer of aluminium with almost half of the world''s production, followed by Russia, Canada, and India. Although aluminium demand is rapidly increasing, known reserves of its bauxite ore are sufficient to meet the worldwide demands for aluminium for many centuries.

Jul 20, 2002· The original flora and fauna of much of the land involved in bauxite mining is restored once mining operations have ceased. For all forest areas used for bauxite mining, 80% is returned to native forests, the rest is replaced by agriculture, commercial forest, or recreational area, thereby making the area more productive for the local community.
